Power Supply

[ Intro ] [ enermax eg451p ve 450 ] [ leadman lp-6100 d ]

Up: New Computer ]

Ok, since the case I chose does not come with a power supply and the vendor from which I bought the case didn't sell power supplies, I have to pick one out separately. This isn't so bad since I am a big believer in separate components anyway.

Ok, I need a power supply around 400 Watts or more. I have quite a few things to plug in and I've been a bit paranoid about power supplies since my last motherboard got fried. So, let's have a minimum of 6 molex connectors in addition to the ATX power and floppy drive power connectors. Other cool things would be a dual fan configuration, variable speed of course with ball bearings. The quieter the better too.

What I considered

Name: Leadman LP-6100D (review)
Manufacturer: Leadman
Why I like it:
  • 2 thermal controlled fans, ball bearing
  • short circuit protection on all outputs
  • thermal overload cut off
  • Pretty beefy 400 W
Concerns:
  • only 6 molex connectors (I have a lot of things to plug in)

Name: Enermax EG451P-VE 450 (review)
Manufacturer: Enermax
Why I like it:
  • 8 molex connectors
  • Meets AMD Athlon, Intel requirements
  • 2 thermal controlled fans, ball bearing
  • Fan speed monitoring
  • Nice and beefy, 431 W
Concerns:
  • A little expensive ~$100
